The mission of the Payments Engineer is to ensure the seamless operation, maintenance, and optimization of our payment authorization system. This role is critical in upholding the reliability and efficiency of our payment infrastructure, a key component of our business operations. The Payments Engineer will act as a bridge between the payment provider and various internal teams, ensuring smooth integrations and effective communication across departments.

Your responsibilities
The Payments Engineer will be tasked with configuring and monitoring the payment platform to ensure continuous and secure transaction processing. They will analyse data and system performance to proactively identify and resolve issues, minimizing service interruptions. By collaborating closely with operations, support, and other IT teams, the Payments Engineer will contribute to improving the overall performance and user experience of our payment solutions.
Furthermore, this role will require the individual to be agile and adaptable, staying up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies to maintain a robust and forward-thinking payment system. The Payments Engineer will play a key role in shaping the future of our payment services, ultimately driving the success of our organization by providing reliable and efficient payment processing solutions.
Platform Maintenance & Monitoring:
· Maintain and oversee the payment authorisation system, ensuring optimal performance and high availability.
· Configure and monitor the platform to address issues proactively and minimize downtime.
Provider Communication:
· Act as the primary point of contact with the payment service provider, handling technical communication and troubleshooting.
Systems Integration:
· Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to integrate the payment system with various IT infrastructures.
· Ensure seamless data flows and communication between interconnected platforms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
· Work closely with operations and support teams to address system issues and ensure alignment with business requirements.
· Provide technical insights and assist in resolving integration challenges.
Performance & Data Analysis:
· Analyse system performance and data, using insights to improve the efficiency of the platform.
· Maintain comprehensive documentation and support audits related to the payment systems.
Interoperability issue analysis
· Analyse interoperability issues between cards and terminals and terminals and our issuing and acquiring system
· Oversee improvements and follow-up on improvements with partners (terminal venders, PSPs and Acquirers)
. Knowledge of network and infrastructures (HA Proxy, Firewall rules, IPSec/VPN tunnels…)
Job requirements
Education:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Experience:
Previous experience as a Software Integrator or in a similar role, with a focus on system integration.
Exposure to the payments industry is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of IT systems, including:
Databases & Data Analysis: Proficient in SQL and capable of performing complex data analysis. High level knowledge of database administration and PL/SQL is a plus (performance analysis, DBMS job and scheduler…)
Systems Integration: Familiarity with protocols, APIs (SOAP/REST), and communication methods used in enterprise IT environments.
Troubleshooting & Configuration: Able to diagnose, configure, and optimize large-scale systems.
Languages :
Excellent mastering for English (understanding, spoken and written)
Very good mastering of French and/or Dutch (understanding and spoken) is a definite plus
Nice to have
Working with or within actors in the Payment industry, like card issuers, acquirers and/or processors
domain expertise in retail payments, with hands-on experience in at least one of the following standards: EMV (Chip & PIN technologies), ISO 8583, C-TAP or PCI Compliance
Background in one or more of the following industries: eCommerce, Banking, or Retail
Knowledge of cryptographic protocols and libraries
